Having a solid morning routine is essential to set the tone for the rest of your day. We’ve put together our best list of morning routine ideas that will surely help you start your morning on the best foot.

This article covers morning routine ideas including getting exercise, meditation, getting outside, working on something that you enjoy, and much more.

Why Morning Routines Matter

You are the most refreshed and energized when you wake up in the morning. It’s super important to capitalize on that energy and use it to propel forward into the rest of your day. Having a highly productive and happy morning will reduce your stress levels and help you achieve your daily goals.

Find Your Why

Do you know what your why is?

Answering this question is very important to helping you create new habits and keeping them in place. Without a why it’s easy to fall back into old morning routines.

Maybe you want to lose some weight, work on a side hustle, or spend more time with loved ones. Spend some time thinking about your why and use that to help drive you forward and keep you on track.

Changing Habits And Mindset

You need to get it out of your mind that you can’t be a morning person. Anyone can have an awesome morning as long as they take action and follow through!

Shift your mindset towards thinking that you are a morning person! Think about your goals and what’s important to you. Identify bad morning routine habits and begin to understand how you will go about fixing them.

The Best Morning Routine Ideas

We’ve compiled this list of our favorite morning routine ideas right here just for you! When implementing these morning routine ideas, it’s important to start small and improve your routine over time.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and fall back into old habits. Keeping your morning routine simple, in the beginning, will help set you up for success.

Get Up Early

Waking up early is an awesome way to begin your day. I’ve found that it’s much easier to focus in the morning before you have other distractions.

Keep consistent and get up at the same time every morning. Create a new habit of getting up every morning at the same time.

No Snoozing

Snoozing your alarm over and over can actually make you feel more groggy and stifle your morning progress. You want to set a positive tone for the day by getting up at a certain time.

Make it a habit of getting up at the same time every morning. If you have problems with getting up, you might need to adjust your bedtime. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep!

Drink A Glass Of Water

It’s common to want to go directly for that cup of coffee in the morning. I have to stop myself from this as I love coffee.

Help your body out by getting down that glass of water first thing. Your body craves water after a nice night of sleep.

Keep Phone Off Or In Airplane Mode

Our phones and devices have become our biggest distractions. Try to silence your phone for a certain amount of time to give yourself a break in the morning.

Those emails and text messages can always wait until later. This can also help you give yourself a small break from social media.

You can also set a bit of time aside for checking emails and catching up but be sure that it doesn’t take over your morning.

Meditation And Self Reflection

Meditation can be amazing! Using a quiet and comfortable place in the morning to meditate for even just a few minutes can lead to a more productive morning routine.

Self-reflecting in the mornings can also help you stay on track and knock out those goals. Think about your why and your goals and how you will make progress.

Morning Routine Ideas – Outline Your Day

Being intentional with your day starts by having a plan. Here are a few tools that can help you stay focused and outline your day for maximum productivity.

Set Goals

Start with a small list of daily goals that you wish to complete. I like to try to keep mine to 3 or 4 maximum. I’ve found that it’s easy to get overwhelmed if I add more than 4.

Think about the size of the goals as well and be realistic. You might not be able to complete 3 large goals that take a ton of time in a single day.

Set yourself up for success by creating achievable daily goals.

Use A Calendar

Keeping a tight calendar is crucial to staying productive and focused. Use time blocking for tasks that are the most important. Be sure to put everything on your calendar.

Scheduling things that you need to do will help you actually get them done. I put everything in my google calendar. I’ve found that if a task isn’t in my calendar or on my accountability board, it’s not going to get done.

You can use the calendar on your phone or go old school and get a physical calendar. Find what works best your you and continue to schedule those tasks!

Have An Accountability Board | Morning Routine Ideas

This can do wonders for your morning routine! I started using an accountability board after I noticed that I kept ignoring my to-do apps. I’ve tried many of them and they just don’t work for me!

So instead of a to-do app, I use an accountability board. I use a small whiteboard that I have placed strategically on my fridge at eye level. It’s really important to place it somewhere that you will pass throughout your day to get a reminder of your daily goals.

Every morning, I write 2 – 4 things on my accountability board that I want to accomplish that day. If I’ve missed something from the previous day, I roll it over to the current day.

Get Some Exercise

Starting your day off with a bit of exercise can create some energy that helps you push through the rest of the day.

Yoga is great in the mornings! It’s very relaxing and you can incorporate meditation with yoga. Having that calming exercise and stretching out your muscles will make you feel awesome in the morning.

Go for a run or bike ride to get some cardio! Getting your heart rate up will help you feel less tired and also help with motivation.

Taking the dog for a walk in the mornings will be great for you and your dog.

Eat Some Breakfast – Morning Routine Ideas

Starting your day off with some energy is crucial! It’s important not to overeat and to also eat healthy so that you don’t feel bogged down. Fruits and breakfast sandwiches are my favorites!

Get a little burst from some coffee or tea. Having a little bit of caffeine can create a spark that snaps you into action.

Complete A Few Small Tasks

Knocking out a few simple tasks can do wonders for your morning routine and the remainder of your day. I’ve found that completing just one task will give me the momentum to stay focused.

Check Emails

You might want to check your emails or messages to knock this out quickly in the morning. It’s really important to stay laser-focused here though and not get sucked into other tasks. Set a strict amount of time to get this done and move on!

Review Accounts

A quick check of your accounts in the morning can help you make sure that you are staying on track for your financial goals. This should only take a few minutes.

Review Previous Day Tasks

Spending a few minutes to review your previous day can be highly beneficial in the morning. Try to understand why you were able to knock out certain tasks and not others.

Be sure to account for any tasks that you didn’t complete on the prior day and add them to your current day.

Work On Something That You Enjoy

Working on something that you enjoy is a great way to boost productivity and overall happiness. It can also help get you out of a funk.

Side Hustle

If you have a side hustle, incorporate some time in your morning routine to work on it. Make sure that it’s a side hustle that you truly enjoy!

Passion Project Or Hobby

Set some time aside for a hobby or something that you are super passionate about. Working on these types of things can make you happy and help you tackle the remainder of your day.

Spend Time With Others

Hanging out with a spouse or your family every morning can be a great way to spend some quality time. You might be able to build stronger relationships!

Meet up with a good friend and have a nice chat. Chatting with others that you know and care about can be a great way to use a bit of time in your mornings.

Try to turn off devices and other distractions so that you can have genuine conversations.

Get Outside

We live in a world where there are so many distractions and so much technology all around us. It’s really great to break away and get outside in the mornings to help mentally reset.

Play With Dogs

This is one of my go-to activities to help me get outside in the morning. It’s really nice to get outside and break away from the screen and keep the pups happy.

Gardening

If you have a garden it can a fantastic way to get outside and also get a little bit of exercise. Gardening is also an awesome way to be a bit more frugal by growing your own veggies and fruits.

Bird Feeder

I added a bird feeder to my backyard a few months ago and it has been well worth it! I find myself taking breaks just to get out and watch the various birds singing and playing. It’s super soothing and they are very active in the morning.

Don’t Sit Idle

Try to recognize when you are sitting idle for periods of time without making progress. It’s great to take breaks and spend some time away from our work and projects, but it’s very easy to become unproductive and waste time when we aren’t intentional with our time.

Don’t let your distractions wreck your morning. Staying focused on what you want to accomplish can help you avoid idleness and unproductivity. Keep focused and get shit done!

How To Stick With These Morning Routine Ideas

Setting a bedtime and sticking with it can help you maintain your productive morning routine. Also, getting up at the same time every day will become easier over time as long as you stay consistent.

Try keeping the same schedule even on weekend days. Sleeping in super late can easily cause you to break your morning routine patterns.

Experiment with different tools to find what helps you be consistent and productive. I love my accountability board and I think everyone should have one!
