The Best Tips To Overcome Your Fear Of Failure
Causes Of Fear
There are many causes of fear that might be contributing to holding you back in life. Let’s take a look at a few of these causes to help you understand or identify if any of these are causing you to live in fear.
Do you find yourself feeling uneasy with an increased heartbeat? Can you become so overwhelmed and stressed that you shut down and don’t want to do anything? Anxiety can be a huge blocker and stop you from overcoming fear.
When you find yourself in these situations, try to relax. Listen to some soothing music or figure out what helps you calm you.
If you do think you have anxiety, you should consult with a medical professional to find out what the best options are for you.
Pressure Or Stress
Do you live or work under high levels of pressure? Are you constantly stressed and being negatively impacted by something in your life?
Stress can wreak havoc on your body and mind. Try to identify where the stress or pressure is coming from so that you can begin to take the next steps on removing that pressure or stress.
Lack Of Self Confidence And Self Doubt
Are you the type of person that is constantly doubting yourself? Do you think that you are never good enough?
This might be because you internalize everything or maybe someone else has made you feel bad about yourself.
You are an awesome individual! Be proud of yourself and continue to take action to become a better person and go for the life that you desire.
Being The Perfectionist
Are you constantly setting high goals for yourself that are unobtainable or do you find yourself trying to make everything as perfect as possible?
It’s great to want to do everything to the best of your abilities, but don’t let it hinder you or keep you from facing your fears.
Fear Of Success
Some people are fearful of becoming successful. They might be worried about how success might change them or the people around them. Maybe you have successful people around you and you don’t want to end up like them.
You can be successful and be an awesome person! Success can be obtained without becoming a self-centered asshat.
Ok, let’s call it what it is. Usually, procrastination is just due to laziness or lack of effort. I know how it is, I can be a huge procrastinator! I’m always working on this and trying to stop putting things off until the last moment.
Think about why you procrastinate. Is it because you are lazy or are you procrastinating things that you are fearful of?
Try to build a system or find small things that help you get out of that procrastination zone. Writing done what I’m going to accomplish every day has helped me immensely.
Worried About What Others Think
This is a big one and many people fall into this mindset. Have you heard of, “keeping up with the Joneses“? It’s real, and many people let this take over their lives and create bad money habits because of this mindset.
You shouldn’t be so worried about what others think. At the end of the day, you have to make yourself happy and those around you happy. Don’t let the fear of change get in the way of how you live your life!
No one is going to make fun of you for driving a $5000 dollar used vehicle as opposed to a brand new $30000 ride. If they do, you shouldn’t be spending any time around them anyways.
How To Stop Living In Fear Of Failure
Find Where Your Fear Is Coming From
If you’ve read through the list of potential causes of fear and haven’t found yours, keep digging. You need to locate the source of your fears to help you overcome them.
Set Easily Obtainable Goals
Use goal-setting to help you work through some facing your fears. It’s great to have large grandiose goals but that can be a hindrance to achieving those goals.
Try setting small goals that pertain to some of the things that you are afraid of. Work towards completing those goals and overcoming fear.
Chipping away at some smaller goals can give you some great momentum. Capitalize on that progress to continue to knock out more goals and set larger goals.
Look At Worst-Case Scenario
Consider the worst-case scenario when you want to take action on something new that is scary. For instance, if you are trying to save 50% of your income and only save 10% you are still better off than before you were saving at all!
I’m willing to bet that most of your fears are brewed up in your own mind. Be self-aware and begin to shift your mindset away from letting your fear control you.
Changing your mindset can have a massive impact on your life. Tell yourself that you can make it happen! Don’t let others feed you further into your fear of failure.
Be positive and surround yourself with other positive people that will lift you up.
Have A Backup Plan
This aligns with considering the worst-case scenario. You should always have a plan B!
Let’s say that you want to become a homeowner and start putting your money towards a mortgage so that you can begin building wealth. Maybe you are fearful of owning a single-family home when you consider the maintenance and responsibility that comes with homeownership.
You could have a plan B to purchase an apartment, condo, or townhome instead. They are usually a bit cheaper and most have a Home Owners Association which means you don’t need to worry as much about maintenance issues.
Don’t Let Fear Of Failure Hold You Hostage!
You don’t want to miss out on amazing opportunities due to your fears. Sometimes you only get a few big opportunities in life. You want to be able to make strong decisions and take action when these opportunities present themselves.
Would you be willing to move to a new city or state to land your dream job?
Settling For Less
It becomes easy to take the easy street if you are constantly living in fear. You shouldn’t have to settle on anything less than the life that you desire! Just be sure not to let your fears hinder you from obtaining what you want in life.
Why Failing Is Good
It’s ok to fail! This is how we learn! There is a lot of pressure put on us in today’s society to be perfect and always perform at our peak levels. Failing can be flipped into a positive if you analyze the failure and find out why it didn’t work out.
I’m a firm believer that you need to fail before you can become really good at something. Many super successful people have failed repeatedly and learned from their failures. They don’t let failure stop them from pushing forward!
You need to learn how to grow from your past failures.
How I’ve Failed And Overcome My Fear Of Failure
I’ve failed plenty of times in my life! In fact, I have some pretty recent fails in the last couple of years. I don’t let those experiences hold me back from taking action and trying to better my life though.
Let’s take a look at a few of my failures.
Print On Demand Business – Failed
I had this great idea of selling coffee cups, t-shirts, and other items with cute animals and phrases from memes on them. These are some of the lessons that I took away from that failed business attempt.
- You really need to know your target audience and niche before you start a business. You have to have a clear understanding of how your customers will find your products and how much it will cost to acquire a sale.
- Failure is probable if you aren’t 100% in it! While I do love animals, I definitely wasn’t completely committed to the project. Honestly, I might have found a way to make it work had I enjoyed it a bit more and continued pushing.
- Anyone can create a website and sell items online! The feeling that rushed over me when I got that first sale was indescribable! I didn’t sell that many items but I was at least able to sell a few and I learned a ton in the process.
Selling Stock Photography – Failed
In my search for passive income, I came across people that were making some extra cash selling their photos. I’m by no means a professional photographer but I thought I’d give it a try.
Here I am well over a year later and I’ve made a whopping $3.68 in royalties on my photos. Again, photography isn’t a passion of mine. Be sure to pursue things that you are truly passionate about!
I’ve since moved on from those failures and created this blog! At Self And Wealth, we are always working on finding the right side hustle that fits our lifestyle.
